Laboratory Animal Technician
Description Responsible for the husbandry of laboratory animals, the sanitation of assigned animal holding rooms, and the maintenance of assigned support areas. With minimal supervision, maintains and manages lab animal breeding colonies to meet research and production goals. May assist with training of new staff members. Observes all animals in assigned work area and reports any sick, injured or distressed animals to the animal health technician. Screens new animals prior to introduction into the colony, ensures safety standards are being maintained, and isolates infected animals. Maintain logs and breeding records, prepare reports, handle laboratory animals, monitor and/or document environmental parameters. Requirements High School or equivalent education. Two years of animal care experience. B.S. and RVT training may substitute for experience. LAT certification (AALAS), RVT license or equivalent lab animal training preferred.
